Certainty at sea
An affordable solar-powered, satellite-enabled, AIS transponder
AngelFish is an install-and-forget AIS transponder with integrated solar power. Designed to be an affordable tracker and emergency beacon, it conforms to the toughest maritime standards and has excellent, proven performance.
AngelFish’s rugged enclosures are IP68 waterproof and the internal battery offers more than ten days operation without sunlight. Units are field configurable and come with a mounting bracket, simplifying deployment and installation.
AngelFish evolved from extensive field trials in the remote, coastal areas of Madagascar and West Africa. Insights gained from years of field testing enabled us to design the AngleFish to face real challenges that are only experienced at sea and in the hands of fishers.
Alternative options & white labelling
AngelFish is a complete stand-alone product, but also a platform that can accommodate various maritime monitoring use cases. Available variants include non-solar, low-power operation compatible with the latest AMRD specifications. Enclosures can be modified for white labelling. Software can be configured for client specific needs, building on the AngelFish’s ability to track vast numbers of vessels.

Our core technologies
AngelFish combines state-of-the-art maritime and satellite connectivity into a practical solution for small-scale fishing, dramatically improving safety at sea and vessel monitoring beyond shore-based systems.
Increased safety using AIS
AIS stands for “Automatic Identification System” and is a technical maritime standard developed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). It is a sophisticated radio technology that enables the exchange of data including position, course, speed and identification between vessels and between vessels and the shore.
AIS has been around for a long time, mandated on large (SOLAS) vessels since 2003 and various products exists for the various needs. The AngelFish messages can therefore be received by any AIS compatible device and this is of particular importance during emergencies so that nearby vessels can come to the rescue.
Self-reporting and security
The AngelFish continuously reports various diagnostics through the Spire Global satellite network. It is the most differentiating feature of the product and unlocks data and security features not yet feasible with similar class products today.
Self-reporting is done on a secure channel using a satellite data service provided by Spire Global and includes product health and operational data.
This allows unsurpassed in-field product support by identifying devices with non-optimal performance to be pro-actively replaced - ensuring a pervasive tracking and safety service for small-scale fisheries.
Global coverage with exactTrax™
As small-scale fishing often extends beyond the traditional coastal reception range for AIS base stations, it is important to ensure that the AngelFish messages can be received by satellites. exactTrax™ is a superior satellite based service provided by Spire Global that allows real-time tracking of fishing vessels regardless of where they are on the globe.
The AngelFish fully supports exactTrax™, enabling persistent and cost effective long range tracking of small vessels regardless of their distance from shore. The exactTrax™ service includes a multi-hour historic vessel track and all data is delivered in standard AIS format for ease of integration.
